Tracking your Bitcoin purchases, whether for tax reasons or just to better protect yourself from losing your holdings, is an essential part of navigating the coming Bitcoin financial system. But most platforms make it unnecessarily complicated or overly expensive. For example:
Cryptocurrency exchanges will easily export your transactions for you, but will usually leave you high and dry when it comes to trying to track gains and losses across your portfolio.
Publishers of tax and portfolio software will import your transactions automatically and will give you advice on tax implications, but only if you’re willing to shell out hundreds of dollars a year in many cases.
In an effort to help you more easily and cheaply track your long-term Bitcoin usage, I’m releasing my Bitcoin Portfolio Tracker — the same one I’ve used for years to track my own Bitcoin transactions — including a host of baked-in formulas that make analyzing your Bitcoin transactions as easy as can be:
