Letter #127: Protect Your Privacy, Protect Your Bitcoin

Read now to learn how protecting your private data can make all the difference in protecting your Bitcoin holdings.

Dear Readers,

When I commented earlier this week that I believe people should have a basic right to privacy, I couldn’t have imagined that my point would be proven so quickly. But recent news out of China has done just that.

In a stunning turn of events, it’s come to light that a hacker may have acquired personal information like names, addresses, ID numbers, and more for around one billion Chinese citizens. The scope of the hack is practically unfathomable, as it impacts more than 1 out of every 8 people on the planet.

The source of the data breach appears to have been the Shanghai police department. This may be one of the most concerning aspects of the hack, because government entities collect and maintain huge amounts of sensitive data on their citizens. No wonder they are some of the most frequent targets for data hacks.
